What is motuto?
motuto is a service aimed at students in grades 6-12 that provides mobile homework assistance where you want it and when. When you get stuck on a problem, or need help with a lesson, use your mobile device to connect to a live tutor who will explain the concept and walk you through the problem-solving process.
How much does motuto cost?
For a limited time motuto is free. After the introductory period, motuto will cost $4.99 for a 20-minute session. Our target is to provide you with the help you need in 20 minutes or less but we understand that some problems are complicated and take more time; each additional 20 minutes in an in-progress session will be $1.99.
How do I set up my motuto account?
No account is required. Simply download the FREE app from the iTunes App store, sign up, and you are ready to start using the service.
Where can I download it?
You can download motuto from the Apple iTunes App store. The Android version will be available soon.
What subjects and grades does motuto cover?
The service is focused on problems that you are likely to encounter in math and science (chemistry, physics, and biology) in grades 6-12.
When can I use motuto?
We currently offer motuto during "after school hours" for most students - 11a-11p PT/ 2p-2a ET, Monday through Friday - but we are growing our team of expert tutors with the goal of providing assistance 24/7.
In which countries is motuto available?
motuto is currently available in the United States and Canada.
What platform is motuto available on?
motuto is currently available on the iOS platform (iPad, iPod, iPhone), but we will be expanding to additional mobile platforms in the future, including Android.
Can I access motuto from my computer?
Currently you can only access motuto from a mobile device, but computer-based tutoring may be available in the future.
Is there a limit to how long I can use motuto?
The initial session is 20 minutes and it is our goal to provide you with the help you need in that amount of time. Each additional 20 minutes in an in-progress session will cost $1.99.
What level of education do the tutors have?
The motuto tutors have a university degree in a related field at minimum, while many even have advanced degrees.
What happens if a tutor is unable to answer my question?
If your tutor is unable to answer your question, motuto will credit your device with another session. We can't give you a refund, but we will provide additional help to resolve your question.
Do I get a refund if they answer my question incorrectly?
Again, let us know if you are not happy. We can't give you a refund, but we can provide you with another session.
Can I request a specific tutor I've worked with or is it random assignment only?
Currently tutors are selected at random, but this is something we are considering in a future release.
What happens if I lose internet/wireless connection during my tutoring session? Can I reconnect with the same tutor?
You are reconnected to the same tutor if you connection resumes in 30 seconds. If the disconnect is longer that 30 seconds you will be place in a priority queue and the next available tutor will resume the session. The new tutor will have access to the work you were doing before you were disconnected.
Can I access notes from my tutoring session afterward?
Your tutoring session is stored in your motuto history on your mobile device. The notes and whiteboards will also be emailed to you as a pdf.
Who created motuto?
motuto was developed in Edmonton, Alberta by an educational technology and publishing company called Castle Rock Research. motuto was developed to compliment Castle Rock's soon to launch SOLARO e-Learning platform that provides lessons and tests aligned with the local curricula across the US and Canada. Castle Rock decided to make motuto a separate offering to make tutoring available on mobile devices everywhere for far less money than traditional online or in-person tutoring services.
